Media turning Pre-teen girls into sexual objects.

Media turning Pre-teen girls into sexual objects.

A landmark report has blamed television, music videos and lyrics, magazines, movies, video games and the internet for aiming sexual messages and products at young girls and making them see themselves as sexual objects.

Lead researcher Dr Eileen Zurbriggen says there is evidence such sexualisation has many negative effects on girls.

These include young girls suffering:

SHAME and anxiety leading to problems with body image.

MENTAL and physical health problems, including eating disorders and depression.

UNHEALTHY sexual self-image.

The report urges parents to be alert to the negative effects.
