Morals and Morality

In the course of day-to-day activities, I have often cut corners, flouted minor laws and have been vaguely unethical. However, it leaves me with a feeling of unease. This is brought on by the fact that since childhood I have been drilled with the moral that it is not the end, but means to an end which is important.

I noticed that I committed these minor transgressions in haste or when I am not confident of the outcome or when I just want it to get over. Having done it, I am hit by remorse, often chide and berate myself for committing them.

Whatever the reasons, I feel I have done something morally contemptible and anxious about the outcome. Predictably, over a period the anxiety diminishes until the next transgression.
