Why women have cosmetic surgery

An Aberdeen University study found an interesting difference in why UK women and US women underwent cosmetic surgery.

Women in UK were motivated to go under the knife to appear more attractive to their other half whereas women in the US were likely to have the surgery for themselves.

Debra Gimlin, a sociologist said the differences in British and American healthcare culture could be a reason for the women's contrasting accounts. "The privatised US system enshrines individual choices for those that can afford it, while the NHS ensures individual access," she explained.
