How do you mark the passage of time?

In his book A Geography of Time, Levine theorizes that different cultures mark time in varying "tempos"—some define events by the clock and others allow events to run their natural courses.

Since I am running a business from home, I notice that, I mark the passage of a day in three phases. One is the early morning phase, which ends with my daughter and wife leaving for school and work respectively. The second phase, is the one which ends with my daughter coming home. From there onwards my third phase starts.
