Punjab’s green revolution turns cancerous.

Punjab the totemic success of India’s green revolution is in the throes of a grey revolution. Massive and unregulated use of pesticides and other agricultural chemicals is causing the children of Punjab, some as young as 10 years to sprout tufts of white and grey hair, some are going blind and some along with adults are afflicted by uncommon cancers.

The state accounts for 17% of India’s total pesticide use. The state’s water, people, animals, milk and agricultural produce are all poisoned with the stuff.
