Using laptops to detect earthquakes.

Lap top, new technology, earth quake sensorsMost laptops are equipped with sensors called the accelerometers. These sensors detect when a laptop is dropped in order to protect the sensitive and delicate components in the hard drive.

Now scientists at the Stanford University believe these same accelerometers in the laptop can be used to detect earthquakes.

Here is a list of laptops that probably have accelerometers.

Macintosh laptop manufactured after January 1, 2005.

Thinkpad manufactured after 2003.

HP laptop produced since January 2007, have a 3D Motion Data Protection System.

Acer laptop produced since January 2007, may have a Gravisense accelerometer on board.
