Did Twitter come of age during the Mumbai terror attack?

Image representing Twitter as depicted in Crun...Image by via CrunchBaseThe Guardian says that Twitter came of age with fast reports from the ground during the ongoing Mumbai terror attack.
Its Mumbai thread provided a stream of snippets, not all accurate, from observers on the ground, with details of casualties, sieges, gunfights, and even the suspected names of terrorists.
While one agrees that the reports were fast, but one doubts whether any of it was original. The tweeters information would have been limited to personal experience and hearsay and some may have regurgitated the news from the traditional media added their opinions and comments.

At best, the tweets would be regurgitated news and at worst a haven for conspiracy theories and rumors. Therefore, calling it as Twitters coming of age would be an exaggeration.
