ISRO’s Bhuvan – Is it an Indian version of Google’s Earth?

The image was copied from the English Wikipedi...Image via WikipediaISRO’s scientists are all set to create an internet-based mapping system called Bhuvan, which means Earth in Sanskrit.

Actually, this is an offshoot of Chandrayaan-1, India’s’ first unmanned moon mission. According to V.Jayaraman, Research Director at the ISRO, Chandrayaan during its orbit is set to map not only the moon but also everything underneath it. They plan to use this data to create Bhuvan.

Most probably, Bhuvan will go on stream in March 2009. However, one has to wait and see how versatile it will be when compared to Google’s earth.
