Maldives- the first carbon neutral nation.

The president of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, approached British climate change experts Chris Goodall and Mark Lynas to help develop the radical carbon-neutrality plan that will make his country carbon neutral within 10 years.

The Maldives is one of the world's lowest-lying countries; with 385,000 people living mainly on land less than two meters above sea level. Even a two meters rise in the ocean level due to global warming will leave the low-lying islands of the Maldives inundated.

This in turn has given a sense of urgency to the plan of making Maldives the first carbon neutral nation by the year 2020.
