Gum disease link to head and neck cancer

Chronic gum disease (periodontitis) may also be a risk factor for cancers of the head and neck.

Already studies have revealed periodontitis may lead to heart diseases and now a new study reveals that it may also lead to cancer of the head and neck.

According to the researchers, with every millimeter of alveolar bone (a bone that surrounds the root of the teeth) loss, there is 4 fold risk of head and neck cancer.

However, one awaits the results of the confirmatory tests.
