Samsung Mobile Phone with PCM

Potential replacement to flash memory

Faster bootup

Samsung Electronics announced they have kick-started production of mobile phones with phase-change memory (PCM).

Phase Change Memory PCM for short, stores information in mobile phones by melting and freezing microscopic crystals. The frozen-in-place nature of the chips means lightning-fast bootup times.

PCM works better the smaller it gets and it is much more stable than flash memory.

Samsung's PCM memory, is only 512MB, but has the potential to replace flash memory in all mobile phones.
